On the terroir of the Plaine des Maures

A long-time trumpeter and lover of Provence, Markus Conrad bought this estate in 2011. His philosophy reflects his passion for the land, the environment, music and wine. Convinced that terroir is the greatest asset, his “Dynamique Bio” approach and his common-sense approach to agronomy enable him to craft elegant, fine wines that beautifully express this preserved terroir.

History

For over 100 years, the grape varieties typical of the region have been produced on the lands of Domaine des Feraud.  Markus Conrad bought the estate in 2011, investing in the organic approach and the art of combining ancestral knowledge with a sense of innovation.

The winemaker’s perspective, like that of a musician

“For Markus Conrad, working the vines and blending wines is deeply rooted in a unique artistic sensibility. It’s through his musician’s eye that he perceives his cuvées: each grape variety, each plot is a note. The story begins with his vision of wine as a work in motion, and then reveals his organic and biodynamic approach—profoundly connected to the nature of the soil and the living, resonant environment of the estate.”
Thierry Desseauve

In this episode of Classe de maître, Markus Conrad—owner of Domaine des Féraud and accomplished musician—joins Thierry Desseauve to present his Blanc de Rolle cuvée, a wine of tension and purity, perfect for sunny days.

Vineyards and terroir

The birthplace of French viticulture and rosé wines over 2,600 years ago, our organically farmed terroir offers ideal conditions for wines of elegant character.

Cool nights, 3,000 hours of sunshine a year and the Mistral wind, which protects the vines from disease.

Winemaking

Knowing the best moment for pruning, harvesting a plot at the perfect time, supervising the vinification process, mastering the subtleties of blending: each step aims to create the quintessential vintage from each harvest.
